New Lay Leader Vetting and Selection Process

During 2021-2022, we have developed a process for selecting and vetting new lay leaders. One of the key responsibilities for department heads is to recommend lay leaders in the cities that have been vetted by them to have the heart, skills, and capabilities for extending the ministry into the city, as a coach to other members with an interest in that particular ministry.

Each of the department heads are responsible for developing the selection criteria for these lay leaders and recommending them to the conveners, for their City Impact Leadership teams. Where the Department Heads vet for qualifications, the Convener also reviews the candidate for elements of fit within the particular City Impact Leadership Team.

The process can present candidates from 2 different directions. Candidate recommendations can come directly from the department head, OR they can come from the convener, when the person meets the required qualifications. Both the Department Head and the Convener have joint ownership of the final decision to bring a candidate onto the City Impact Leadership team. It is expected that both have imput as described above, so that the decision can be appropriate for the city.
